There are a number of possible reasons for tooth pain
If you are experiencing the pain of a toothache, you might assume that you have a cavity. Although this may be the case, there are a number of other issues that could be causing your discomfort. Here are some of the factors that can cause toothaches…Sinus infectionIt may come as a surprise, but it is possible for a sinus infection to cause a toothache, particularly in the upper back teeth, which are located quite close to the sinuses. When the sinuses become inflamed or blocked it can lead to toothache, as well as an unpleasant taste in the mouth and even bad breath. You may also experience some tenderness and dull aching in the jaw, face and nose.Tooth sensitivityIf you feel some discomfort or pain when you consume hot or cold foods and drinks, you may be suffering from tooth sensitivity. Sensitivity can be caused by a number of factors, including worn down enamel (caused by brushing too hard, grinding your teeth, or regularly consuming acidic foods and drinks); gum recession; and chips and cracks.TMJ disordersTMJ disorders are associated with a number of uncomfortable symptoms, including pain in the jaw and face; stiffness in the jaw muscles; and limited movement in the jaw. You may also feel some discomfort in the teeth as a result of grinding your teeth. The condition can be caused by a number of factors, including structural jaw problems and arthritis, while stress is also often a contributing factor.Inflammation When the pulp of a tooth becomes inflamed, pressure tends to build up within the tooth, placing pressure on surrounding tissues. This can cause severe pain, which generally gets worse over time. Fortunately, inflammation in the tooth can be treated, so we recommend that you come in and see us if you experience a toothache.Dental abscessesDental abscesses are most often caused when bacteria inside a tooth’s pulp chamber builds up and becomes infected.
